Promoting careers
The environmental health profession needs a continuing influx of new people to sustain it into the future. So one of our top priorities is to build on the successful work we have already done to promote environmental health as a career.
Our recent highlights include:
- Launching a dynamic, interactive careers website www.ehcareers.org
- As a member of the Regulatory Services Partnership, securing a major cash injection by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to support recruitment into the environmental health profession
After a period of decline, student numbers are on the increase again. More opportunities are opening up for EHPs to work in central government, the private and voluntary sectors, the NHS and local health boards.
The CIEH is working to increase opportunities for entry into the profession by creating new routes to qualification and persuading more universities to offer accredited environmental health degree courses.
We are working with universities to increase the flexibility of courses to accommodate part-time, distance and work-based study. And we are actively lobbyinglocal authorities and organisations to provide paid training placements for students.
