Professional development plans
The CPD scheme includes the option of professional development planning. The aim is to encourage EHPs to take a purposeful approach to their professional development, rather than this happening on a piecemeal basis.
A model professional development plan has been provided for members’ guidance. This can be used in the absence of, or to supplement, existing arrangements. To encourage a more proactive approach to CPD, producing and updating a professional development plan qualifies for one hour of CPD per year.
Members who already have annual appraisals and work to the Investors in People standard are likely to have a professional development plan already. There is no need to duplicate existing forms; however, professional development plans must include two key elements:
- Forward planning to meet future development needs
- Evaluation of learning gained from development already undertaken
If either of these elements is missing, members should supplement their existing plans if they want to claim an hour of CPD.
