Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD validates and supports the environmental health profession by acting as a quality assurance scheme for the competency of practitioners. The issues and the regulatory framework don’t stand still, and neither can EHPs if they are to stay on top of their jobs.
All CIEH members have to undertake CPD, with the exception of student, associate and retired members. The standard requirement is 20 hours of CPD per year; Accredited Associate members do 10 hours and members holding Chartered status do 30 hours.
The time requirement is based on calendar years and is assessed on a pro rata basis for any year in which membership begins or changes. The hours can be made up of a combination of core and supplementary CPD, although at least half must comprise core hours.
