Professional examination process flowchart

This flowchart outlines the professional examination process, available from July 2005, for Student members enrolled on courses of study accredited under curriculum 2003 and route proposed for Accredited Associate members seeking to qualify via the process known as the ‘Accredited Associate’ route (not yet available).

Accredited degree route candidates exempt from Part 1 exams – direct entry to Part 2

Part 1
Written Professional Examination

  • An assessment of acquired technical knowledge and technical skills in all 5 of the core areas of EH
  • Exemptions available via Accreditation of Prior Learning of EHRB Diplomas and other Degree-level qualifications
  • Candidates can choose to sit papers as a suite or individually

Part 2 Written Professional Examination

  • A single, substantial case study paper
  • Intervention based and covering at least 2 different EH intervention groups i.e. Food, H&S, EP, Housing and PH
  • Questions to be task-based and require justification and reflection by the candidate
  • Examination to assess skills at Level 3 that are identified in Appendix 3 of Curriculum 2003

Exam to take place on 1 day:

  • 1000 to 1200 receive case study and approved reading pack and individual preparation
  • 1200 to 1300 lunch (provided by CIEH)
  • 1300 to 1600 open-book examination
  • Reading pack collected in at the end
  • All special-needs candidates to sit the exam separately at Chadwick Court

Interview

The Interview will follow the current structure

Scenarios will be reviewed and rewritten to allow the student to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Prioritization
  • Professional attitude/approach
  • Determination of an appropriate course of action/intervention
  • Identification of others with whom they should be working

The student is expected to also demonstrate a wider understanding of the potential/actual health impacts emergent from within the scenarios
