A rewarding career with great prospects
Environmental health practitioners are highly qualified professionals whose work, as well as being varied and challenging, makes a real difference to people’s health and well-being.
EHPs work to ensure that the food we eat is safe and of good quality, to improve housing conditions, to safeguard standards of workplace health and safety, and to create a better environment, for example by tackling air pollution problems.
It’s a career that provides excellent opportunities, both for school leavers and for people wanting to retrain or to take forward experience gained in related occupations. A degree in environmental health opens the door to a range of excellent career prospects.
There are also flexible routes to qualification for people currently working in technical support roles.
Getting qualified is just the beginning. CIEH members undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to develop their knowledge and skills throughout their careers. CIEH runs a comprehensive education, training and events programme, with courses, conferences, seminars and events throughout the year.
By going on to take the Assessment of Professional Development (APD), members can become eligible for Chartered status – the quality standard for EHPs.
Training for all
As well as being the professional body for environmental health, CIEH is also a major awarding body for vocational qualifications.
All sorts of organisations choose CIEH qualifications and materials to train their staff in subjects including food safety, health and safety, and environmental protection. Overall, we’re the biggest accreditation body for environmental health training in the UK.
